Seminar topic: Māori Development Hon Dr Pita Sharples of Ngāti Kahungunu is co‐leader of the Māori Party, and Member of Parliament for Tamaki‐Makaurau. Under the terms of a confidence and supply agreement with the National Party, he is a Minister outside Cabinet in the National‐led Government. His portfolios’ include Minister of Māori Affairs, Associate Minister of Education, and Associate Minister of Corrections. The topic of the Minister’s seminar is on Māori development. As such, his interest is in promoting increases in levels of achievement by Māori in education, training and employment, health, and economic resource development. In addition, the Minister monitors and liaises with other Ministers’ to ensure that services for Māori in their respective departments and agencies are adequate.
