Seminar Topic: Symbols of Nationhood Malcolm Mulholland has written a chapter titled “Symbols of Nationhood” in a book he coedited with Veronica Tawhai titled “Weeping Waters: The Treaty of Waitangi and Constitutional Change” (Huia Publishers, 2010). His chapter has stimulated debate about the appropriateness of the New Zealand flag, the New Zealand National Anthem and the name, New Zealand. In his chapter Mulholland argues that these symbols need to change under any constitutional arrangement that properly recognises the Treaty of Waitangi. Malcolm (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa) is employed by Te Pūtahi‐a‐Toi, Māori Studies, at Massey University, to assist with publications. His previous book project, State of the Māori Nation (Reed, 2006), has become a standard text for many Māori focused papers. He is currently co‐editing “Kaitiaki: Māori and the Environment”, with Rachael Selby and Pataka Moore, and has just released “Weeping Waters: The Treaty of Waitangi and Constitutional Change for Aotearoa New Zealand” with Veronica Tawhai. Whakaata Māori (Māori Television) is currently running a series based on Malcolm Mulholland's "Beneath the Māori Moon: An Illustrated History of Māori Rugby". The series is run over 15 weeks, Thursday nights at 8.00pm, which commenced on 6 May.
