The Foreshore and seabed It's nearly five years on from the hikoi which brought 30,000 people to Wellington to protest against the then proposed foreshore and seabed legislation. Moana Jackson was an outspoken critic of the 2004 legislation which he regarded as a fundamental breach of tikanga and Te Tiriti o Waitangi. He provides a useful analysis on past, present and future prospects. Moana Jackson is a well-known and respected Māori activist and lawyer from Ngāti Kahungunu and Ngāti Porou specialising in Treaty and constitutional issues. He has worked internationally on indigenous issues, particularly drafting the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples' and as a judge on the International Tribunal of Indigenous Rights in Hawaii in 1993.
