Seminar Topic:Whānau Ora Whānau Ora provides practical, community‐based support to whānau so they can be self‐managing and determine their own economic, cultural and social development. The primary focus is on achieving best outcomes for whānau through the development of whānau leadership and integrated whānau‐centred service delivery. The Whānau Ora Taskforce Report identified that Whānau Ora will be achieved when whānau are: self‐managing; living healthy lifestyles; participating fully in Te Ao Māori; economically secure, actively and successfully involved in wealth creation; and cohesive, resilient and nurturing. Hon. Turia, co‐leader of the Māori Party holds many ministerial appointments including Minister of Whānau Ora. Former Chief Executive of Te Oranganui Iwi Health Authority (the longest and largest Māori Health Service provider in the Central Region); Service broker for Te Puni Kokiri; Manager Whaioranga Iwi Social Services Unit, 1991; Manager Whanganui Regional Development Board Trust, 1989. Tariana was also a member of an evaluation team for first pilot cervical screening project for Māori women; a member of two task forces to establish kura kaupapa Māori and member of a team that established the Te Awa Youth Trust (the first marae based training establishment in 1980). Hon. Turia is of Ngāti Apa, Ngā Rauru, Tūwharetoa and Whanganui descent.
